Little red rubies now at Trader Joe’s
Pomegranates have long been a symbol of prosperity, fertility, and ambition. Now, with packages of pomegranate seeds, that symbol is more alive than ever.
Packages of pomegranate seeds are symbolize being a baller. Or, it’s just a sign you like eating pomegranate seeds by the spoonful. But most likely both. Just like me.
Packaged pomegranate seeds are the ultimate luxury. More than a Vitamix. But similar. It’s outsourcing your pomegranate de-seeding. And it’s amazing.
Symbolism now and then
Take one look the wiki page for pomegranate. Notice how many ancient civilizations make the pomegranate a symbol of good things in their faith.
Many of them saw symbols of fertility. With the 500+ individual seeds you can see the connection. Wikipedia says that in ancient Armenia “a bride was given a pomegranate fruit, which she threw against a wall, breaking it into pieces. Scattered pomegranate seeds ensured the bride future children.”
The connection to ancient civilization prosperity is found in text and art. Wikipedia says a Hebrew High Priest wears a robe with embroidered pomegranates in the Book of Exodus.
Today, if you’re stocking packaged pomegranate seeds in the fridge, you’re all of the above. You’ve made it. You’re feeling good. And that’s a recipe for fertile.
If you’re new to Life is NOYOKE, there’s a simple rule: If it’s on the site, it’s healthy. Pomegranate seeds are no exception.
Antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, etc. All you have to do is look at the vibrant color. As a rule, the more bright and beautiful, the more the better the fuel. If you need further convincing, here’s 10 reasons to love pomegranate seeds.
Pomegranate seeds stain; even packaged pomegranate seeds
If you’ve ever cut into a pomegranate, you know the facts. Pomegranate seeds stain like crazy. Of course, buying a package of pomegranate seeds doesn’t guarantee stain-free eating.
Just because the pomegranate is already de-seeded, seeds can still fly all over the place. From experience, I know that pomegranate seeds, even from a package, can stain:
- Everything white besides my teeth (unverified, but hopefully true!)
The time saved with packaged seeds is remarkable. Open the package and shake ’em out. No knives, no dishes. Just open, shut, done.
Someone will make the argument that time is not actually saved. The pomegranate needed to be de-seeded by a person or machine and that took time. Well, I’m talking about our time-savings. And in this case, outsourcing this task I think is worth it.
Pomegranate seeds are good in tons of recipes. Salads like the Arugula Avocado Pomegranate salad is a staple in my house. Soups I should make have pomegranate seeds. And side dishes like Maple Glazed Brussels Sprouts are made more colorful and delicious with these little red jewels.
Just a spoonful of pom seeds
Just finish dinner and want something for dessert? Something refreshing, sweet and cold. Take a spoonful of pomegranate seeds and pretend not to be completely satisfied. You wouldn’t believe how often I do this.
Or, do you need to take some gross, liquid medicine? Open your package of pom seeds and pretend you’re Julie Andrews from Merry Poppins.
And there’s always the alcoholic in me’s favorite: Pomegranate seeds as a chaser. Shots of vodka were never so easy.
Packaged pomegranate seeds are the shit. Make them a part of your grocery store routine. Then, you’ll be ballin’ out like a G — just like they did in ancient civilizations. Except you got yours in a box from Trader Joe’s.
