Background

For years, Vitamix has offered a brushed stainless version of their Classic and Next Generation models.

And they looked fabulous.

When I got my first brushed stainless model, a Pro 750, I was taken aback. Even in my dingy kitchen, it looked so sharp.

(I’m on the record of gushing over its looks at minute 7:11 of this video at the beginning of this review.)

But there was one problem.

Until recently, the brushed stainless was NOT actually stainless steel. It was a glossy paint covering a plastic shell.

(I actually didn’t realize this until a reader brought it to my attention. Thanks, reader!)

Not necessarily a problem, but a disappointing realization nonetheless.

Fast forward to today.

Brushed Stainless Pro 750’s now have ACTUAL METAL shells. And so all models in the Vitamix Heritage Collection!

But metal shells on Vitamix machines means much more than aesthetics. Let’s discuss.

Here’s the deal with the Vitamix Heritage Collection

Real Metal shells

The Heritage Collection is a lovely name for Vitamix machines with an ACTUAL metal shell.

What does this mean?

Instead of plastic that’s finished to look like metal, it’s metal that’s finished to look like what it is: metal!

From afar, you probably wouldn’t be able to distinguish the difference.

But up close, the Heritage Collection becomes clear in two ways:

1. The top lip of the shell is shaped slightly different than it was in the past. (Probably only noticeable to guys like me or someone looking at the an old one side-by-side.)
2. The shell will “ping” if you flick it with your fingernail. (Because it’s actually metal!).

Cool, huh?

To be fair, I’ve only seen the Brushed Stainless version in-person. (It was during a visit to Vitamix HQ prior to official release.)

But, I just got off the phone with Mike G at Vitamix Customer Service, and he told me the Copper Metal finished 750 sitting in their break room looked awfully dapper. Here’s one of (pretty solid!) pics he sent me.

But aside from the improved look and feel, these new metal shells have a few more added benefits.

Improved durability

Let’s face it — the kitchen can be a scary place.

• Fire.
• Knives.
• Kicking and screaming children.

Metal shells, as featured in all Heritage Collection Vitamix machines, are MUCH more durable than its plastic-shelled predecessor.

Kicks, dings, scratches, and stains should be a thing of the past with this new design.

Curious about the manufacturing details? Here ya go:

First, the metal shells are buffed to “an enduring finish” (the exact words from marketing).  Then, they’re coated to protect it from scratches and fingerprints.

So basically, a Vitamix from the Heritage Collection should stay in pristine condition for a long, long time.

But buying one of these things won’t just keep our kitchens looking beautiful. They’ll keep our planet looking beautiful!

More environmentally friendly

This is simple. Replacing a plastic shell with a metal shell makes Mother Nature happy, right?

Admittedly, I’m not not an expert on carbon footprint, recycling, etc.

But isn’t less plastic generally a good thing? More environmentally friendly, right?

So the Heritage Collection helps save the world.

But let’s talk about what everyone wants to save now: money!

Instant savings

The new shells are marketed as, and genuinely are, premium metal.

But they’re actually less expensive to produce!

A Heritage Collection Vitamix might be for you if…

• You were ever considering a Pro 750.
• You’re interested in the most exclusive model of Vitamix.
• You think one of the finishes would complement premium kitchen appliances nicely.
• You have been looking for an excuse to upgrade.
• You have someone who’d appreciate your perfectly-fine, yet non-Heritage Collection Vitamix.

A Heritage Collection Vitamix might not be for you if…

• You’re looking to buy a C-Series (Heritage Collection is currently exclusive to G-Series).
• You’re looking to buy an S-Series (see above.
• You’re in the plastics business, and this would show a lack of support for your product. (I needed a third bullet point.)

FAQ

If I order a Brushed Stainless Pro 750 online, how will I know it will be a Heritage Collection model (and not an older, plastic shelled version)?

The old, plastic-shelled versions of Brushed Stainless Pro 750’s are no longer being sold. Even if you wanted one, they’re impossible to get. You will get a metal-shelled, Heritage Collection model if you order a Brushed Stainless Pro 750 online today.

Is the Copper Metal Finish real copper?

All shells in the Heritage Collection are metal. The copper finish, however, is not actual copper. It’s copper-colored finish on top of a metal shell.

How can I get the shell of my previously-purchased Pro 750 switched out for a metal, Heritage Collection shell?

I can’t say for certain that this is possible. Your best bet is to call 1-800-VITAMIX and learn about your options.

How does the performance from a Heritage Collection Vitamix differ from other models?

The new metal shells are the only thing different about the Heritage Collection. Performance should be exactly the same.
