Hey guys, quick post to address a very frequently asked question:

“I heard the low-profile 64-oz container has a hard time making small smoothies; small batches. Is that true? Do I need a 48-oz container?”

What’s the Minimum Batch Size for Low-Profile 64-ounce Vitamix Containers?

The low-profile 64-ounce container that comes with most new Vitamix models can make small batches of most blends like smoothies, whole-food juices, etc.

The challenge is with small batches of thick blends like nut butters, hummus, or ice cream. For those, you need to use four cups of ingredients (instead of three with a narrow-bodied container).

We’ve made 12-oz smoothies in the low-profile 64-ounce without any issue (shown here).

Is the 64-ounce container too big?

For most people, the low-profile 64-ounce is not too big. It actually is nice to have the ability to make full batches of blends for the week. For example, we make green juice and it lasts in the fridge for three days.

If you’re primarily using a Vitamix to make ice cream or nut butters, you may want to consider a model with a narrow-bodied container. The E310 comes with a low-profile, narrow-bodied 48-oz container that works great for this.

What’s the minimum batch size for 48-ounce containers?

For thick blends like nut butter in a 48-ounce container, you’ll need a minimum of 3-cups.

For non-thick blends like Frappucinos, you can make batches as small as 12-ounces.

Which is better? 32-oz or 48-oz?

You can choose between a 32-oz or a 48-oz narrow-bodied container if you have a Classic Vitamix model. Because of identical shape at the bottom near the blade, these two have the same minimum batch size.

The 48 is a bit bulkier towards the top, but is more versatile because of it’s slightly larger capacity. We like that one.
