- And, yes, tons of protein even though it’s just plants.
Hang on, hang on. You should know it’s absolutely delicious. Not too sweet, yet kids love it!
Go make a batch, would ya? Your family will love you for it.
I follow this green juice formula (and habit); and so should you!
People come to us with a few common questions:
- Can you help me with meal planning?
- Can you help me eat more vegetables without getting bored?
- Can you help me get greens into the mouths of my picky eaters?
Our response always starts with the same thing: Green juice.
Get into the habit of making it every morning.
Aside from our queso, this green juice formula has been the most life-changing part of our routine.
And if thinking about us making this green juice every morning doesn’t motivate you, here’s another option: John Barnard, 3rd generation CEO of Vitamix.
“I’m in charge of making green juice. I make it every day and make sure there’s always some available for someone who needs a snack.”
I learned this habit from Mr. Barnard during this conversation.
Also in that chat, he taught me the formula.
The green juice formula
We’ll provide an exact recipe below. It’s important to get it right the first few times.
But we do not measure anymore.
We follow the formula.
In summary, the green juice formula follows these three steps:
- Fruit (little bit).
- Greens (a lot).
- Seeds (little bit).
Then, there are three keys to success:
- Water / Ice
- Lemon
- Ginger
Finally, we like to finish the green juice with a little kick. Any hot pepper works, but we like jalapeno.

We’ve been touting this green juice recipe for a while now and finally have a dedicated recipe post for it. Go make a batch this morning!

Useful tips for Everyday Green Juice
Your green juice will last in the refrigerator for a couple of days. If it’s separated at all, just give it a little shake.
Make a giant batch. Any extra can go into a jar for later.
You do not need to peel the ginger if you’re using a Vitamix. Just be sure it’s rinsed.
You can leave the lemon peel on. Just be sure it’s rinsed.
Most of the heat inside hot peppers is in the seeds. Use more or less as desired.
As mentioned above, this is the basic formula for green juice. Feel free to add or subtract as you like.
The order in which you add ingredients matters. Liquid, fruit, greens, then ice on top. 🙂

Bought my Vitamix after watching some of your encouraging videos. Really helped me decide which one. My first green juice recipe I tried was this one. Soooo delicious!!! Can’t wait to try more recipes. Thank you!
I wish I could find some other recipes like this that I love as much but use some other veggies too. Want to use up this cucumber, but struggling to find a good recipe.
This is a great green juice recipe, and for my partner who is allergic to apples I just substitute with frozen mango. It is delicious every time, even when I add a bit too much kale. Still so refreshing, spicy, and tasty. A great base recipe to play around with!
I really wanted to love this, but it fell flat. In general, I love green juices and smoothies, but this was lackluster. I have made it exactly per the recipe, and I have made it subbing some of the recommendations in and out. But it was really bland.
I guess it serves its purpose as a healthy base, but I encourage you all, if you do not like it, to try playing with the recipe until you get more flavor.
This is now my go-to green juice recipe. I use frozen fruit to turn it into a smoothie – makes it even more refreshing! Thank you for opening my eyes to Vitamix and drinking my greens every day. Your family is SO appreciated! (From a Twin Cities Neighbor)
This is now a daily necessity for me. I’ve enjoyed adding mangos, pears, kiwi depend to on what’s ripe at the time. I feel a little jolt of energy similar but better than my cup of coffee. Huge fan. Thanks for sharing!
I’m torn about this recipe. I just made this and honestly I am less than thrilled. 4 cups of water barely left enough room in the container to add the rest without going above the maximum line. It also has zero flavor. Won’t make again.
Love this recipe! I omitted the lemon and used 1/2 tsp powdered ginger and less ice since i don’t like to drink really cold beverages. It was delicious. I’m not sure why i had SO much foam though. What do you think?
Try adding a little bit more seeds to the recipe, and blending on speed 1 for 30 seconds at the end. Should be smooth!
Hemp a possibility instead of Chia or Flax?
Absolutely, yep! 🙂
Any nutritional information? Its delish by the way!
Hi. I upgraded from my Ninja BL450 to the Vitamix E310, which I used for the first time yesterday. I followed this Green Juice recipe, with a few modifications, but I have a question about the ginger and lemon. I used only thumbnail/garnish sized pieces as you recommend, but when I drank my smoothie I could still taste pieces of both ginger and lemon – they didn’t seem to be fully pulverized (blended)? I expect to taste pieces of ginger and lemon from my Ninja, but I was surprised that the Vitamix didn’t completely blend them. I will say that I probably ran the Vitamix for only 60 seconds total and at power level 10 for 30 of those seconds. Could that be the reason? Thank you for your help.
Hi AT. Yeah, you’ll want to run on Variable Speed 10 for 90 seconds at least. Don’t wait too long to ramp up to the highest speed it goes.
Thank you so much for a fast reply, Lenny. I guess I’m just not used to using a Vitamix and this variable level concept. So I was not sure if running the machine at level 10 for 90 seconds was a good thing! I’ll have to discard my Ninja habits completely and learn how to use the Vitamix. I am planning on trying your fancy tomato soup recipe next – that’ll be a completely new thing for me.
This a text we got from Callista who just got her A3500 and immediately made green juice:
“I just got the Vitamix and made the Green Juice recipe. What was I thinking?? I should have got one a long time ago. I feel amazing! 🙂 Thank you, Lenny! Thank you, Shalva (I’m following you on Instagram!).
How many ounces from the batch would you say is a serving?
Hi Donna,
So glad you love the green juice as much as us. Just like you, always save one large jar for later.
Yea, Shalva’s Thanksgiving recipes are fab. Don’t miss the mushroom gravy; it’s the best.
Happy Thanksgiving! 🙂
Lenny and Shalva
Hi Lenny & Shalva; Wanted to thank you for re-posting your Everyday Green Juice. I really needed a kick in the rear to re-set my weight loss and wanted something that tasted cleaner & lighter than the typical smoothie. I absolutely love this juice. It came out perfectly the 1st time and, being single, I put away half the pitcher in the fridge for the next day and it was still great. About a month ago I started trying some new tofu recipes using ginger which I’ve never really used a lot before, and was immediately hooked on ginger (who knew??), so the ginger kick in this juice is wonderful. I really do feel like as soon as I drink this juice, my body is sort of ‘soaking it in’! Thanks again, have a lovely Thanksgiving (Shalva, I’m trying many of your Thanksgiving recipes even if they are just for me) and hope we see your beautiful baby soon.
