Need a New Healthy Habit? Try This Green Juice (no-juicer-needed)!

Last Updated March 6, 2023

New and exciting! This recipe is part of our Vitamix diet plan: 1K30. Check it out!

__

This green juice recipe? It’s got it all.

  • Fruit.
  • Greens.
  • Seeds.
  • Fiber.
  • Nutrients.
  • Vitamins.
  • And, yes, tons of protein even though it’s just plants.

Hang on, hang on. You should know it’s absolutely delicious. Not too sweet, yet kids love it!

Go make a batch, would ya? Your family will love you for it.

I follow this green juice formula (and habit); and so should you!

People come to us with a few common questions:

  • Can you help me with meal planning?
  • Can you help me eat more vegetables without getting bored?
  • Can you help me get greens into the mouths of my picky eaters?

Our response always starts with the same thing: Green juice.

Get into the habit of making it every morning.

Aside from our queso, this green juice formula has been the most life-changing part of our routine.

And if thinking about us making this green juice every morning doesn’t motivate you, here’s another option: John Barnard, 3rd generation CEO of Vitamix.

“I’m in charge of making green juice. I make it every day and make sure there’s always some available for someone who needs a snack.”

I learned this habit from Mr. Barnard during this conversation.

Also in that chat, he taught me the formula.

The green juice formula

We’ll provide an exact recipe below. It’s important to get it right the first few times.

But we do not measure anymore.

We follow the formula.

In summary, the green juice formula follows these three steps:

  1. Fruit (little bit).
  2. Greens (a lot).
  3. Seeds (little bit).

Then, there are three keys to success:

  • Water / Ice
  • Lemon
  • Ginger

Finally, we like to finish the green juice with a little kick. Any hot pepper works, but we like jalapeno.

Want to hear it and see it? Here’s our blended green juice formula video.

Want to teach your kids about green juice? Here’s our book for babies and toddlers, Benny The Blender Makes Green Juice.

We’ve been touting this green juice recipe for a while now and finally have a dedicated recipe post for it. Go make a batch this morning!

This green juice recipe is designed for a 64 oz container. If you’re using a smaller container, adjust proportionately.

Useful tips for Green Juice

Your green juice will last in the refrigerator for a couple of days. If it’s separated at all, just give it a little shake.

Make a giant batch. Any extra can go into a jar for later.

You do not need to peel the ginger if you’re using a Vitamix. Just be sure it’s rinsed.

You can leave the lemon peel on. Just be sure it’s rinsed.

Most of the heat inside hot peppers is in the seeds. Use more or less as desired.

As mentioned above, this is the basic formula for green juice. Feel free to add or subtract as you like.

The order in which you add ingredients matters. Liquid, fruit, greens, then ice on top. 🙂

Can the seeds go in whole or do you have to grind them first?

You can use whole flax, chia, hemp seeds. The Vitamix will do the work at the same time as making the juice.

Love this juice AND its flexibility. I have been making my versions of this recipe in my 64oz container, but that gives me four ~16 ounce servings, or four days worth; I find this juice remains fresh up to three days at most.

Today I used my 48oz stainless container so as to end up with three servings. I kept the fruit quantities all the same (as I don’t know how to use ¾ of an apple other’n eating a quarter). Everything else in the recipe, I cut back a quarter. Oh, and I always sub mango for the banana in my juices. Tasted great, if a bit on the thick side, perhaps because I threw in a whole kiwi I needed to use.

    Ingredients (makes roughly 48oz)
    water – 3 cups
    apple – one whole, cored
    orange – one whole, peeled
kiwi – one whole with skin
greens – about two cups, spinach and baby kale
    ginger root – thumb-sized piece
    lemon – ½ with peel
hot pepper – a small piece
    mango – 1 ½ cups frozen
    ice – 2 cups
seeds – 1 Tbsp. (chia and hemp)

Can you freeze the green juice. I made a full batch and I’m the only one drinking it! Thank you!

Yeah, go for it! Freeze it in something besides glass as that could crack and ruin the whole batch. And when you’re ready to consume, let it thaw for a while and re-blend. Consider using ice cube trays as that’ll make it easy to get out of the freezer and is a good size to re-blend.

I’ve had my Vitamix 3500 for around 4 years and I’ve only used it a handful of times, it sits in a cupboard unused which is crazy! Your videos and posts have inspired me to dust it off and get it out! I suppose I got a little scared initially of it as it’s loud and using the tamper makes me want to run lol I have the the small bowls and cups which I’ve never used so I’m thinking I’ll start with smaller things and work my way up! I live in UK and considering purchasing the smaller 1.4 wet container as recommended by you to make smaller batches. Thankyou for inspiring me to get some use from this machine finally and I look forward to seeing more of your videos.

Yes! Dust that thing off! We would actually recommend starting with the full size container and then moving on to the accessories. It’s the easiest to use and gets you the most consistent results when you’re just starting out. Think of your machine as a race car, it’s loud and wants to go fast. That’s what it’s made to do 🙂

You certainly can, would recommend using less though because they have a more concentrated taste.

I love this juice recipe! I make it every day but my 64 oz container stopped working and I’m having to wait on the new one to arrive. How would you convert this recipe for the 48 oz container?

Apologies for just seeing this (hopefully you have received your 64oz container by now). When using the 48oz we just half the recipe so we don’t have to get too creative with math 🙂

Hi there from sunny (not) Great Britain!
Just wanted to say the green juice is superb. I make a batch and fill 6 little bottles (bought in a charity shop !) just the right size for a daily drink – I drink one on the Monday and that leaves me 5 in the fridge for the next 5 days ; each bottle has a cap with a hole for a straw that I cover with cling film.
Is that ok to keep it that way?
How do I send you some pics?
And thank you very much for your website.
I love my Vitamix – bought it this year at Lakeland with the 2 little adds on cups. Great machine but your opinion most definitely swayed me !
All the best to you and your family

I need to drink more of this–I started out with the super fruity smoothies (with some kale/spinach tossed in for good luck) after being pretty much a coffee person. I’m now heading toward the more green, less “vacation with a drink umbrella” smoothies:) But really, I’ve used so many of these recipes as a guide to learning my Vitamix. 🙂

Finally got a Vitamix…Gamechanger…I was making green juice in another blender, but this is superior. Mostly I just wanted to say: Your son is adorable and the juice is perfect. I do add a tiny nub of tumeric root.

I’m looking for a green juice with more veg and less fruit because I have breast cancer and need to cut down on sugar, even fructose. Three fruits and a big handful of greens seems like half & half. How do I make a green juice that’s mostly veg and yet tastes good? Thx!

Soooooo good. And it really makes you feel fantastic!! Thanks so much you guys!!! I love your site!! Cheers <3
