1. New blog posts, site updates, and other things we’re proud to be sharing

Good morning from Minneapolis!

Remember grade school art class?

• Primary colors.
• Secondary colors.
• Complementary colors, when mixed turns a lovely shade of brown? ?

Well, same holds true for your blends.

At first glance, you’d think this bunch of bloody mary mix ingredients would yield something gorgeous. Nope.

Red mixed with green equals vomit!

Why is this? Think about mixing all three primary colors, red, blue, and yellow together in equal amounts. Well, that’s essentially what you’re doing when you mix a secondary color, purple, orange, or green with the primary color that didn’t “birth” it, yellow, blue, and red, respectively.

And that’s why we keep lemon peels out of purple shakes. And blueberries out of mango smoothies. And strawberries out of green smoothies.

So why we thought it would be a good idea to blend celery and parsley with a dozen tomatoes? No clue.

We’ll try again next week.

But it’s a good lesson to keep in mind when free-styling your blends, especially when you have picky eaters.

2. New recipes we’re enjoying

Black forest ice cream. For someone special, this ice cream is just that.

+ Acai bowls. This was an impromptu add-in this week, so we’re working with cell phone pics. But this recipe post has the low-down the trendy (still?) superfood deliciousness.

Peach pie smoothie. Simple and delish.
