How to Make Simple, Sweet Relish with your Vitamix
Something about sweet relish always freaked me out.
- The extreme sweetness?
- The neon-green color?
- The ketchup-like bottle housing something that’s NOT sauce?
Whatever it was, I decided to make my own version.
Here’s my simple, sweet relish recipe.
But first, the science behind the mysterious green stuff.
What's Really in Your Neon Relish?
Let’s be fair. If you’re eating a hot dog, it’s probably for a special event (like a ball game).
So who cares what condiments you put on it?
You really shouldn’t.
But here’s the problem: Most store-bought sweet relish bottles are not worth eating even on special occasions. Or ever.
Why?
Aside from the standard ingredients, they’re loaded with junk. Poison, really. Artificial preservatives, flavors and colors as well asĀ HFCS.
My advice to you: Skip the store-bought sweet relish.
But if you’re gonna miss it, try this recipe.Ā It’s:
- Simple.
- Easy.
- Pretty darn healthy.
Not to mention, it’s sure to impress theĀ guests at your tailgate or dinner party. (And, it’s an excuse to use your Vitamix.)
Much love,
Lenny
Note on Heinz Sweet Relish
I try to keep things very positive here. Basically, if it’s mentionedĀ on Life is NOYOKE, it’s a good thing.
Why?
Well, there are three reasons.
First, it keeps things simple for you. You don’t need to remember “good” or “bad” for the things I mention. Everything’s good. Easy for you.
Second, there are plenty of websites that bash Big Food products. I think we’re better off taking a different approach. Let’s not dignify Big Food brands at all. Any press is good press, so we’ll give them none. Or, at least, as little as we can. (You’ll notice I don’t even mention the brand by name in the video.)
Third, telling you NOT to eat something is annoying. I don’t want to say it. You don’t want to hear it.
Having said all that, here’s the deal with Heinz sweet relish. It’s the worst thing ever. In ten years, it will be illegal to sell a product like this.
My advice?
Pass on Heinz sweet relish or make your own (using the wonderful recipe below!).

Here’s a silly little video that walks you through all that.Ā Plus, of course, the recipe demonstration.
