This shake tastes like birthday cake

Last Updated June 17, 2020
Cake batter smoothie.

Like birthday cake? Here’s a simple shake that tastes just like it.

It’s the Cake Batter Shake. And it tastes delicious year round.

An update to a classic shake that tastes like cake

I originally made this shake in 2013 to coincide with my 28th birthday. Here’s a picture from my first.

Things have changed a bit since then.

I’m nearly 32 now. My Vitamix is now our Vitamix.

And I’m married to a woman who grew up dreaming of being a food stylist. (Related: Here’s a picture from Shalva’s first birthday.)

Baby Shalva eating cake.

That means photos of birthday cake shakes don’t look like this anymore. (Here’s the picture from the original post. Yikes.)

Now they feature pink sprinkles. And look like this (and are fit for a bday princess, like me):

As my birthday approaches this week, I feel blessed to still be doing Lifeisnoyoke full time. Cheers to four more years.

Close up with Life is NOYOKE's cake batter smoothie.

Thank you Shar! We made funfetti pancakes this weekend for our oldest’s birthday. 🙂

Do you really mean raw oats? Or can it be old-fashioned rolled oats? I don’t usually see those in stores.

      Yeah, old-fashioned rolled. 🙂

Would you happen to know the calorie count in this recepie?

We use unsweetened almond milk, so the total count is 470 calories (including the optional flax seeds). But the recipe makes either one monster smoothie, or 2 smaller ones to share (which is only 235 calories).

Is there a birthday cake recipe that you have made? If so, would you mind sharing it?

      Hi Brenda,

At the moment, I don’t have a birthday cake recipe that “fits” the noyoke lifestyle.

      But that’s a great idea.

Let me know if you find something worth of this site, eh?

    Quick 2 questions:

    1. Can you also just use egg whites straight out of the shell(s) in lieu of carton whites?

    2. Is egg-white protein powder just as effective/same as fresh egg whites in the smoothies?

    Thanks!

      Hi Bridget,

      Good questions.

      1. I do not recommend using egg whites straight from the shell. I mean, it won’t kill you. But, I’m pretty hardcore and I wouldn’t even do that. Pasteurization eliminates any chance of getting sick. Plus, I think it helps with the consistency and taste.

      2. Egg white protein powder is probably just as effective. I, however, perfected all my egg white smoothies with liquid pasteurized egg whites. The few times I’ve tried with the powder, they haven’t turned out as good. But the recipes may just need to be tweaked for the powdered version.

What else can I answer? 🙂
