Try this dairy-free, easy tumeric latte in your Vitamix

Last Updated February 17, 2022

This recipe for a vegan turmeric spice latte is both easy and packed full of nutritional benefits.

Yes, Starbucks makes one. But if you’ve got a Vitamix (or another high-powered blender), you can make one yourself!

Turmeric Lattes, also known as Golden Milk, are an nice alternative to a pumpkin spice latte. And, they are much healthier!

Grab the recipe below or read on to see how this recipe came to be (and why it’s so good for you)!

How this turmeric latte was born

When the folks at Vitamix asked us to create a Turmeric Latte, we said “that sounds good”.

We’ve made pumpkin spice lattes, but we’ve never made one with turmeric. (We’ve seen them. We just had yet to imbibe.)

Turmeric is one of our favorite ingredients during the fall and winter because of its immune boosting properties. Also because it tastes amazing. So we were excited to start experimenting.

Here’s what we knew:

  • Turmeric tastes good with ginger.
  • Lattes are better with a little sweetness.
  • Our Vitamix can make froth out of nut milks.

Now, we just got one of the new Exporian E310‘s. So we decided to give that a whirl while we played around in our vegan Vitamix kitchen.

Since it’s a Vitamix, we knew it could handle fresh ginger root and fresh turmeric. (Fresh over powdered if available!)

We wanted to create a foamy/frothy mixture out of dairy-free milk. So we tested a few.

For the creamiest latte, use hemp milk. Soy and almond milk are also great. Rice milk and coconut milk were less impressive from a creaminess standpoint.

Turmeric is a strong flavor and we wanted our latte to be complex. We added a pitted date, vanilla extract, and cinnamon. All flavors we knew would pair well with turmeric and ginger.

After throwing everything in the E310’s 48-oz container and blending on high for 5 minutes, we had a perfect turmeric latte.

It came out:

  • Gorgeous
  • Frothy
  • Steaming hot
  • Luscious

Turmeric latte with a cinnamon stick.

This turmeric latte not only taste delicious, but it has an incredible amount of health benefits as well.

The classic yellow herb has been used for centuries to cure ailments, but it’s best known to help with:

  • inflammation
  • high cholesterol
  • skin problems
  • brain diseases
  • cancer
  • depression
  • seasonal allergies
  • boosting the immune system
  • and a slew of other benefits

Turmeric latte made in our Vitamix.

Make yourself a steaming cup full of this golden milk. Knowing how good it is for you, you’ll feel the effects instantly.

Tumeric latte? Yes please!

Useful tips for Turmeric Latte

You can use any non-dairy milk, but the ones that froth the best are hemp, soy, and almond (in that order).

If you don’t have fresh ginger or fresh turmeric, you can use powdered/ground. For the ginger, use 1 + 1/4 tsp (2.25 g) of ground. For the turmeric, use 4 tsp (12 g) of ground.

The pepper seems like a strange addition, but it helps the body absorb the benefits of the turmeric. You can’t taste it at all.

Sprinkle with some cinnamon or serve with a cinnamon stick.

Turmeric is notorious for staining your container. The best way to get rid of the yellow is to leave your container in the sun for a few hours. It will naturally bleach it without using any harsh chemicals. We have lots of other Vitamix cleaning tips here.

Yum! I might try it with oat milk and see how the froth turns out.

OMG!!!!!! I am so glad I found you. Hubby got me a 3500 about a week ago and I am so frustrated trying to learn how to use all of the gadgets the right way. Being Celiac and dairy sensitive and mostly plant based eating this has been a LOOOOONG journey for me since oh about 2005. No help back then that is for sure. Now at 71 I am still learning how to eat correctly so this one time body can last. I love Golden Milk but this recipe I have not tried yet. I will let you know. Thank you for teaching how to use the Vitamix and the great recipes. Like the hones response. That was good!!!!!

Hello! Just curious – would this be possible in the aer disc container? I received one as a gift, and am excited to try it out. Wasn’t sure though how it does with pieces of ginger, turmeric, etc. Thanks!

      Hi Laura,

The Aer Disc really isn’t built to deal with those hard solid pieces like ginger and turmeric.

Check out our post on the Aer Disc to see what it is good for!

But you could blend in your regular container and FROTH in your aer disk!

If blending fresh ginger in avitamix, does it have to be strained after? Asking because I ordered a vitamix yesterday. Looking forward to making this drink!! Thanks!

Hi Gina, Congratulations on ordering a Vitamix! So exciting. You should not have to strain — that’s the beauty of the Vitamix machine. 🙂

Can you use coconut milk instead of almond/hemp/soy?

You can use any non-dairy milk and it will taste delicious. I haven’t tried coconut milk, so don’t know how well it will “froth”.

But do you have to peel it?

That’s a very good question! We’ve always peeled both ginger and turmeric. But as long as you wash them, it seems both peels are safe to eat (especially if blended)!
